Minority Rape
Jun 18th, 2012 by Unamused
Read more lists like this one here.
This webpage documents the staggering rate at which blacks, Hispanics, Arabs, South Asians, and Pacific Islanders commit rape.
Each year, these racial minorities commit so many rapes in the United States alone that it is impossible to list even one of every thousand cases; see our special entry on crime statistics below. Therefore, we must restrict our attention to only the most extreme and heinous violent sex crimes.
Sadly, it is still impossible to list more than a tiny fraction.

Special: Crime Statistics
We present some statistics on race and crime in the United States of America. These startling findings justify our project to document violent sex crimes by racial minorities.
Sources of data: There are two main sources of data on the race of criminal offenders. The first is the annual National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), available at usdoj.gov:
Two times a year, the U.S. Census Bureau personnel interview household members in a nationally representative sample of approximately 43,000 households (about 76,000 people). Approximately 150,000 interviews of persons age 12 or older are conducted annually. Households stay in the sample for 3 years. New households rotate into the sample on an ongoing basis.
The NCVS collects information on crimes suffered by individuals and households, whether or not those crimes were reported to law enforcement. It estimates the proportion of each crime type reported to law enforcement, and it summarizes the reasons that victims give for reporting or not reporting [fbi.gov].
Note that the NCVS has nothing to do with arrests, police reports, trials, convictions, or sentencing. It simply asks the victims.
The second source of information is the Uniform Crime Reporting Program (UCR) by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), available at fbi.gov, which
compiles data from monthly law enforcement reports or individual crime incident records transmitted directly to the FBI or to centralized state agencies that then report to the FBI. The program thoroughly examines each report it receives for reasonableness, accuracy, and deviations that may indicate errors [fbi.gov].
Race of offenders: Unfortunately, the BJS and FBI choose not to include a racial category for Hispanics; see our special entry on hate crime statistics in “Hate Crime Hoaxes.” In general, visibly non-white Hispanics who aren’t black — that is, “brown” Hispanics — are recorded as white.
Since it is impossible to separate whites from Hispanics, we have to compare the crime rate of blacks to the crime rate of whites and Hispanics combined (W&H).
Offenses and Arrests by Race: We downloaded the NCVS and UCR data for 2004 to 2008, the five most recent years for which they are available. Combining all five years, we found the following.
At least 35% of rape/sexual assault offenders are black. 33% of people arrested for forcible rape are also black. Therefore, there does not appear to be any bias against blacks in arrests.
Since only 13% of Americans are black but they account for at least 35% of rape/sexual assault offenders, blacks commit rape/sexual assault at about 5 times the rate of whites and Hispanics combined.
Blacks commit single-offender rape/sexual assault at about 4 times the rate of whites and Hispanics combined; blacks commit multiple-offender (gang) rape/sexual assault at about 12 times the rate of W&H.
W&H Victims: Each year, a combined 150,000 whites and Hispanics (W&H) are victims of rape/sexual assault. Nearly all of those* are single-offender victimizations. The offender is black in 1 out of 6 rapes/sexual assaults against W&H victims.
On the other hand, from 2004 to 2008, not a single case of single-offender W&H-on-black rape was reported to the NCVS. The offender is black in roughly 100% of rapes/sexual assaults against black victims.
Black Offenders: Each year, 60,000 blacks commit single-offender rape/sexual assault. The victim is W&H in 44% of rapes/sexual assaults by black offenders: more than 3 out of 7.
Again, the victim is black in roughly 0% of rapes/sexual assaults by W&H offenders.
*We do not have reliable data on multiple-offender (gang) rape/sexual assault. However, there is a trend in multiple-offender versus single-offender violent crimes (robbery, assault, and overall). If rapes/sexual assaults follow that trend, then the offender is black in much more than 1 out of 6 gang rapes/sexual assaults against W&H victims, and the victim is still W&H in roughly 3 out of 7 of rapes/sexual assaults by black offenders.
Jun 2012: Hispanic Male Beaten to Death for Abduction and Rape of 5-Year-Old Girl (Texas)
“Molester Beaten to Death by Texas Dad Identified, Disturbing New Details Released” (theblaze.com):
The man who was beaten to death by a Texas dad for allegedly molesting his 5-year-old daughter has been identified by authorities.
Lavaca County Sheriff Micah Harmon said that the 23-year-old father killed Jesus Mora Flores, 47, from Gonzales, Texas. The sheriff said Flores was not in the U.S. illegally and was in possession of a green card also known as a permanent resident card. Investigators have been working with Mexican Consulate officials to locate his family, the news release revealed.
The June 9 killing reportedly occurred in Mt. Olive near a barn where some horses were being kept. The adults were shoeing a horse while the little girl and her brother went to feed chickens, KPRC in Houston reports.
The two kids’ grandfather later said the boy returned and told him that his sister had been taken away by a man (Flores) who apparently dragged her behind some bushes on the property. The Texas dad went out looking for her, calling her name. KPRC reportedly spoke with the family.
Soon after, he heard the sound of his little girl’s screams and rushed to find her. When he did, he says Flores was molesting his daughter. The dad yanked him off of her and repeatedly struck him in the head and neck with his fists, ultimately killing him. Flores, an acquaintance of the father, had been hired to help tend to some of the family’s horses.
But it is now clear that the father walked into a even more horrifying scene than previously known.
“When emergency medical personnel arrived, Jesus Mora Flores‘ pants and underwear were down and the man’s genitals were exposed,” Harmon was quoted saying in the press release, as reported by the Victoria Advocate.
See also “Beating death of daughter’s alleged molester is ruled homicide” (latimes.com).
The father heard the girl scream, and ran in that direction. He found Flores on top of his child, pulled him off and began hitting him in the head and neck, according to the district attorney’s statement.
Someone called 911 to report the incident, and paramedics who responded found Flores’ body lying in a pasture near the barn, his underwear down, according to the sheriff’s statement. They performed CPR, but could not detect a heartbeat; Flores was pronounced dead at the scene by a justice of the peace at 4:50 p.m., officials said.
Jun 2012: Black Male Rapes 3-Year-Old Girl at Daycare (Virginia)
“Dayquan Michael Miller arrested for sexual assault of three year old” (wjla.com):
A Woodbridge man was arrested for the sexual assault of a 3-year-old girl at a daycare.
Prince William County Police said that a sexual assault was reported at a private residence, which is also a licensed daycare, on the 13100 block of Quade Lane in Woodbridge. Police say that the suspect, Dayquan Michael Miller, 18, was an acquaintance of the victim.
The victim was in the care of employees when the assault reportedly occurred. There were other children present at the residence, police said. No other assaults were reported.
Miller was charged with two counts of forcible sodomy and one count of aggravated sexual battery.
Dec 2011: Four Black Males Rape and Severely Beat Metro Passenger by “Garbage-Strewn Creek” (Maryland)
“Woman gang-raped near Greenbelt Metro” (wjla.com):
A 24-year-old College Park woman who had left the Greenbelt Metro station and was walking along Cherrywood Lane around 4 a.m. was gang raped early Saturday.
Police say up to four men jumped out and dragged her back near a wooded area. They raped her and beat her. The ordeal lasted for nearly an hour.
The victim finally managed to get back out to Cherrywood Lane and flag down some joggers, who called police. She was treated at the hospital for severe facial injuries and released Saturday night.
“I’ve been a police officer here in Greenbelt for 27 years and this is certainly one of the most disturbing incidents that has occurred during my time here,” says one officer.
All four rapists are young black males (wjla.com video).
Nov 2011: Four Black Males Kidnap and Rape Elderly Man in Racial Hate Crime (Texas)
“Elderly man kidnapped, raped near Socorro park” (kfoxtv.com):
Socorro police and the FBI are looking for four men who police say attacked and raped an elderly man who was out on his early-morning walk.
Investigators said the 70-year-old was walking Thursday around 6 a.m. at Valle del Sol Park on Valle Rico Road and Valle Fertil when they said four black men got out of a late-’90s Ford or Chevrolet van or minivan and demanded the Mexican-American man to give them money. When he said, “No,” they allegedly grabbed him, threw him in the van and raped him.
Socorro spokesman David Garcia said the men yelled racial slurs at the victim as they assaulted him.
“These four people know each other well enough to do something like this in front of each other. This is an atrocity!” Garcia said. “This man was somebody’s dad. This man was somebody’s brother, somebody’s friend.”
He said the victim was so badly hurt, he had surgery and is in serious condition at a hospital.
“I think that’s ridiculous. A 70-year-old man getting taken and raped by an unknown vehicle, you know,” Christian Nevarez, 23, said. He lives in the neighborhood and said he usually wakes up early and sees several people taking walks along the park. He said children also walk to school early in the morning.
Oct 2009: White Girl Lured Outside Homecoming Dance by White Friend for Gang Rape and Beating by Blacks and Hispanics (California)
The crime: “Police detectives shocked at remorseless suspects in gang rape of San Francisco-area girl, 15″ (nydailynews.com):
The shocking gang rape of a 15-year-old San Francisco-area girl was awful enough. But what has shaken even veteran cops is the complete lack of remorse shown by at least some of the suspects arrested in the case.
It’s “disgusting” and “the worst thing I’ve heard of,” Richmond Detective Ken Greco, who has been on the force for 29 years, was quoted in The San Francisco Chronicle.
The victim was found semiconscious beneath a picnic table after being brutalized by up to 10 suspects for about two hours.
“She was raped, beaten, robbed and dehumanized by several suspects who were obviously okay enough with it to behave that way in each other’s presence,” police Lt. Mark Gagan told the Chronicle.
“What makes it even more disturbing is the presence of others,” Gagan said. “People came by, saw what was happening and failed to report it.”
“This just gets worse and worse the more you dig into it,” Gagan told CNN. “It was like a horror movie after looking at the evidence. I can’t believe not one person felt compelled to help her.”
The Chronicle reported that five suspects are in custody after police picked up three people Tuesday night. But investigators think there were as many as 10 assailants, ranging in age from 15 to their early 20s. The young men laughed and shot photos as they took turns assaulting the girl, police said.
“Based on witness statements and suspect statements, and also physical evidence, we know that she was raped by at least four suspects committing multiple sex acts,” Gagan said.
“As people announced over time that this was going on, more people came to see, and some actually participated,” Gagan said.
Indeed, “[p]olice suspect that at least ten young males were directly involved in the multiple rapes while at least two dozen watched, many laughing and cheering and taking pictures” (yahoo.com).
Again, those two dozen or more bystanders “stood around cheering, taking pictures, laughing, and going in and out of the still ongoing homecoming dance to inform others of what was transpiring outside the school” (yahoo.com).
Some of the informed came out to observe and may have participated in the gang rape as well. … A former Richmond High School student called 911 after the incident when they overheard a conversation between young males bragging about the gang rape.
We present more details of the crime itself below.
The rapists: Charged in connection with the rape and beating were Cody Smith (15), who is white; Marcelles Peter (18) and John Crane Jr. (43), who are black; and Elvis Torrentes (23), Ari Abdallah Morales (17), Jose Carlos Montano (19), and Manuel Ortega (20), who are Hispanic (picture below; see baycitizen.org).

Top row, left to right: John Crane Jr., Manuel Ortega, Jose Montano. Bottom row, left to right: Elvis Torrentes, Marcelles Peter, Ari Morales.
Cody Smith lured the victim to the scene (see below), but a judge eventually ordered him released “after ruling that police violated his rights during interrogation” (baycitizen.org). As for the others:
“Hey man,” a detective said Peter recalled Torrentes saying. “There’s, like, some drunk chick over there having sex with a bunch of guys.”
According to the testimony, after she had passed out, witnesses identified Montano as the first to rape the victim. Morales told police he took the girl’s ring, urinated on her and stuck the antenna of a stolen school walkie-talkie into her vagina. Peter told detectives he had fondled the victim, according to testimony. At some point during the attack, Cashman alleged that another man, 44-year-old John Crane, also raped the victim. Police said they found remnants of Crane’s semen on the victim’s genitals, buttocks and mouth. But no one recalled seeing Crane at the scene that night, according to the testimony.
Manuel Ortega, who started the whole thing, is particularly disgusting.
Detectives said that after the victim collapsed, Ortega removed her underwear and pantyhose. Witnesses said Ortega first tried to force the victim to perform oral sex and began punching her and kicking her in the head when she either refused or was unable.
Upon his arrest at the scene, when not trying to bite the arresting officer, he had the following to say, among other things (baycitizen.com, baycitizen.org, monster.com):
- “I wasn’t the only one, there was hella people. She wanted it.”
- “[The victim's name] wanted it. She was so drunk, she didn’t even know what was going on. [The victim's name] wanted the dick. She wanted all of us.”
- “I didn’t do shit wrong. We was all drinking and that bitch wanted me to fuck her.”
- “I just wanted to pimp her out.”
- “Just shoot me in the head, I don’t care” and/or “I won’t judge you”
The 15-year-old victim was eventually revealed to be white (baycitizen.org and contracostatimes.com — the latter requires a subscription, so see vdare.com or amnation.com).
Richmond High School is 78% Hispanic, 10% black, and 7% Asian, but only 2% white (greatschools.org). Does the victim qualify as a “minority”?
The charges: According to Richmond Police Lieutenant Mark Gagan (yahoo.com),
Richmond Police would request charges of rape, rape in concert with violence, penetration with a foreign object and a special enhancement requesting life in prison. “The charges accurately reflect the severity of the suspect’s actions,” he said.
Ultimately, the younger rapists were charged as follows (ktvu.com).
The three juveniles [Cody Ray Smith, Marcelles Peter, Ari Morales] have been charged as adults with rape by a foreign object while acting in concert. Morales has also been charged with robbery, according to the criminal complaint.
Ortega has been charged with forcible rape while acting in concert, assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, and robbery.
Montano has been charged with forcible rape while acting in concert and rape by a foreign object while acting in concert.
Torrentes has been charged with rape by a foreign object of a person unable to resist due to intoxication, rape by a foreign object while acting in concert and rape while acting in concert, Cashman said.
All of the defendants except for Torrentes also face enhancements that make them eligible for a life sentence, according to Cashman.
43-year-old John Crane Jr. “surrendered at the Richmond Police Department around 7:30 p.m. and was booked on felony sexual assault charges” (sfist.com).
The white guy: Cody Ray Smith was apparently the only white person involved in the gang rape besides the victim. Although a judge freed him, he should of course be executed forthwith along with the other rapists. However, it is worth examining his special role in the assault.
Smith was the victim’s friend, and lured her to the courtyard on that basis (baycitizen.org). Presumably she would not have followed any of the other rapists.
Cody Ray Smith, 16, whom [the victim] identified as a friend and student at Richmond High, approached her and asked if she wanted to have a drink with him and his friends.
The student told Greco that she thought to herself, “Why not? I’ve known him [Cody] since seventh grade.”
She said that she and Cody walked over to the picnic tables in the courtyard where some people were sitting. There was at least one bottle of alcohol, which she thought contained brandy, and she recalled them passing it around and “chugging” it.”
This is one of the few things the victim remembers (sfgate.com):
As [the victim] walked out of the high school, a friend and now a defendant, Cody Smith, told her to “come over here,” the victim said, according to Rea. When the teen went to where Smith directed her, she got dizzy, fell down, and someone helped her up.
After that, Rea testified, “she doesn’t remember anything at all until she was at the hospital with a tube down her throat.”
The girl also had one other memory. “She remembered someone holding the bottle up so she couldn’t stop drinking,” Rea testified.
More on the crime: Read more in “Richmond Rape Victim: ‘Do My Parents Know?’” (baycitizen.org):
[Kenneth Greco, a former detective with the Richmond Police Department] testified that following the interview with the alleged victim, Greco and a colleague conducted interviews with defendants Manuel Ortega, 20, and Ari Morales, 17, which revealed crude, graphic details of the night.
During an hour-long interview with Detective Greco, Manuel Ortega, who was arrested at the scene, recalled the alleged victim collapsed by a wall in the corner of the courtyard, vomited, and was raped while as many as 20 people watched.
“More people kept coming,” Ortega told Detective Greco during the interview. Ortega said people were taking photos of the victim with their cell phones.
Ortega said the student was on the ground, kicking and saying, “no, no” and said he struck her repeatedly to “make her shut up.”
Greco testified that Morales told the detectives that when he first arrived on the scene, Elvis Torrentes, 23, Rodriguez, Ortega, and five other friends were there. He said the girl was lying on the ground, awake, but whining and moaning — “really out of it.”
After Rodriguez left, Greco testified that Morales told detectives Ortega tried to force a sexual act on the incapacitated girl, got mad, and that she lost consciousness as Ortega was beating her.

Detectives continued searching for more suspects Wednesday. They can only estimate how many participated in the rape — perhaps seven — after the victim fell into a drunken stupor in their in their company.
Police say the victim left the dance about 9:30 p.m. and walked north on 23rd Street, intending to phone her father for a ride home. But before she did, a classmate called to her from behind a chain-link fence that separates a campus courtyard from the street.
“Her friend called to her, then hopped the fence and escorted her” up Emeric Avenue to a low gate that led into a campus parking lot, Lt. Mark Gagan said.
They joined a group of teens and young adults hanging out and drinking in the poorly lit courtyard.
The victim drank a large amount of brandy in a short period of time while socializing, police said, then collapsed. Someone dragged her to a bench, where several people stripped her, beat her, stole her jewelry and other belongings, and raped her.
The sexual assault continued for about two hours, detectives estimate, with several young men and boys taking part, possibly including some who arrived after the attack began, as word spread.
“Richmond Homecoming Gang Rape Suspects Plead Not Guilty” (ktvu.com):
“The word that always comes to my mind in this particular case is callous,” [Senior Deputy District Attorney Dara Cashman] said. “It’s very cold and callous. We have some rape cases and even rapes in concert where the injuries are tremendous and where the conduct is extremely brutal. This is certainly up there in those types of cases, but it also has a very cold, callous element to it because of the fact that there were so many people and very little effort to help her.”
“With Detective’s Testimony, Even More Unsettling Details Emerge from Richmond High Gang Rape Case” (sfist.com):
According to Bay City News on the Appeal, [retired Richmond Police Detective Ken Greco] testified that one of the seven defendants told the detective he backhanded the victim across her face. Another defendant, 20 year-old Manuel Ortega, allegedly told the detective that the victim protested and screamed for help. The full report of Ortega’s graphic testimony, is admittedly difficult to get through, but also details constantly changing stories from the defendants.
Ari Morales, who is 17 but being tried as an adult, allegedly gave multiple accounts of the night — first claiming “All I did was pee on her and take her ring” before later admitting to inserting a walkie-talkie antenna into the victim “out of silliness.” BCN also reports that Morales later revealed to Detective Greco that he saw Ortega “kneeling on the ground trying to force the victim to give him oral sex. When she didn’t do it, he allegedly started beating and ‘torturing’ her.”

2000–2009: More than 1000 Peace Corps Volunteers, Largely White, Raped in Third World Countries (World)
“Peace Corps Gang Rape: Volunteer Says U.S. Agency Ignored Warnings” (abcnews.go.com):
More than 1,000 young American women have been raped or sexually assaulted in the last decade while serving as Peace Corps volunteers in foreign countries, an ABC News 20/20 investigation has found.
In some cases, victims say, the Peace Corps has ignored safety concerns and later tried to blame the women who were raped for bringing on the attacks.
“I have two daughters now and I would never ever let them join the Peace Corps,” said Adrianna Ault Nolan of New York, who was raped while serving in Haiti.
She is one of six rape and sexual assault victims who agreed to tell their stories, in hopes the Peace Corps will do a better job of volunteer training and victim counseling. The report will be broadcast Friday night on 20/20.
In the most brutal attack, Jess Smochek, 29, of Pennsylvania was gang raped in Bangladesh in 2004 by a group of young men after she says Peace Corps officials in the country ignored her pleas to re-locate her.
“They all took turns raping me,” she told ABC News. “They raped me with their bodies. They raped me with foreign objects.”
Smochek says the group began to stalk her and tried to kiss her and touch her from the very first day she arrived at the city where she was assigned.
“Every day we felt unsafe. And we reported everything, we just kept reporting,” she said in an interview with five other former volunteers who also were rape or sexual assault victims.
She says the gang rape took place just hours after a Peace Corps safety official filed a report with the local police but again ignored her pleas for re-assignment.
She says the young men knew she had complained to the police.
“They slammed me against the wall and just started threatening me, they’re calling me a filthy American whore,” she said. “‘We told you to stop going to the police. And now we have to kill you,’” she said.
“I was in so much pain that I just told them, ‘Just kill me. Please. Just do it.’” Smochek was left unconscious in a back alley.
She says the Peace Corps immediately began to cover up what happened to her, fearful, she says, of offending officials in Bangladesh.
“When the decision was made that I was to go to Washington, D.C., I was told to tell volunteers that I was having my wisdom teeth out,” Smochek says.
Between 2000 and 2009, Peace Corps figures show there were 221 rapes or attempted rapes, 147 major sexual attacks and 719 other sexual assaults — defined as unwanted or forced kissing, fondling or groping.
According to the figures, there is a yearly average of 22 rapes. There were 15 in the year for which the figures are most recently available, 2009.
Peace Corps officials say the number of rapes has gradually declined over the decade.
But some victims say the Peace Corps has continued to treat them in an insensitive way.
“There isn’t a point person or an advocate or someone who is managing the case,” said Casey Frazee of Cincinnati, Ohio who was sexually assaulted in South Africa in 2009. She has established a support group and website for other Peace Corps victims, First Response Action.
“No one is really looking at this because there’s this over-idealized picture of the JFK Peace Corps,” said Frazee.
Maggie Young of New Mexico says she decided to tell the story of her rape in South Africa in 2008 because she feels more should be known about the problem.
“It’s nice to know that there are people out there who care about hearing our stories,” she said of the ABC News report.
In the case of the gang rape victim, Jess Smochek, she says she was made to feel the attack was her fault because she had been walking alone shortly after 5 p.m.
“I had to list all the things that I had done wrong to cause this to happen to me,” she says her counselor told her.
Other women said they were told that by having a drink or two they had invited the attacks.
“I was a risky person, and that I had in some way put myself in that situation,” said Adrianna Ault Nolan, who was raped in 1998 but says she still carries the mental scars of the incident.
“I still blame myself,” says Christina Holsomback of Alabama, who was raped in the country of Georgia in 2008. “Maybe I should not have had a drink or maybe we shouldn’t have gone to dinner.”
Many of the women interviewed for the ABC News 20/20 investigation said the Peace Corps needs to provide more than the limited counseling they received after they were attacked, and help to cut through bureaucratic red tape to get further treatment.
“It was too hard to navigate by myself and so I just gave up,” said Jill Hoxmeier, now studying public health in New Mexico, who was sexually assaulted in the South American country of Guyana in 2007.
The victim of the gang rape, Jess Smochek, says she was given only limited counseling sessions and a one-way ticket home and still suffers from after-effects to this day, more than six years later.
“My life has changed forever,” she told ABC News.
Jun 2007: 10 Blacks Make Woman Perform Sex Act on 12-Year-Old Son During 3 Hours of Rape and Torture Before Bathing Both in Vinegar, Ammonia, Nail Polish Remover, etc. (Florida)
“At Fla. housing project, rape just another crime” (msnbc.msn.com):
Mother and son huddled together, battered and beaten, in the bathroom — sobbing, wondering why no one came to help.
Surely the neighbors had heard their screams. The walls are thin, the screen doors flimsy in this violence-plagued housing project on the edge of downtown.
For three hours, the pair say, they endured sheer terror as the 35-year-old Haitian immigrant was raped and sodomized by up to 10 masked teenagers and her 12-year-old son was beaten in another room.
Then, mother and son were reunited to endure the unspeakable: At gunpoint, the woman was forced to perform oral sex on the boy, she later told a TV station.
Afterward, they were doused with household cleansers, perhaps in a haphazard attempt to scrub the crime scene, or maybe simply to torture the victims even more. The solutions burned the boy’s eyes.
The thugs then fled, taking with them a couple of hundred dollars’ worth of cash, jewelry and cell phones.
On the night of the attack, [the mother] was lured outside by a teenager who knocked on the door and said her car had a flat. Nine more teens, their faces shrouded with T-shirts, barged in, she told authorities. They brandished guns and demanded money, then went beyond the imaginable.
“I was so scared,” the woman told WPTV. “Some of them had sex with me twice, some of them had sex with me three times. They’re beating me up. They make me do those things over and over. The man with the big gun, he put the gun inside of me.”
She said that when she was forced to perform oral sex on her own son, she told the boy: “I know you love me, and I love you, too.”
Dunbar Village is not a very nice neighborhood:
Teenagers with gold-plated teeth wander the streets. Drug dealers hang out on nearby sidewalks. Trash bin lids are open. Flies hover over dirty diapers. Clothes dry on sagging lines.
In the year leading up to the rape, police were called to Dunbar Village 717 times, or almost twice a day.
As in other blighted neighborhoods across the country where criminals seem to have free rein, residents here live in fear. Snitches get stitches, they say. Or worse.
Read more in “Dunbar Village rape trial — or trials?” (palmbeachpost.com):
It was one of the Florida’s most heinous crimes. The sickening details made national headlines and shocked seasoned investigators. It wasn’t just the savagery, but the ages of the alleged perpetrators. One only 14. None had yet reached their 21st birthday.
Thursday marks the two-year anniversary of the gang rape of a 35-year-old mother who was forced to have sex with her 12-year-old son in West Palm Beach’s Dunbar Village housing project. Their attackers held them at gunpoint for three hours. Afterwards, they poured alcohol, nail polish remover and ammonia on the woman in an attempt to destroy evidence of their crime. They poured cleaning solution in her son’s eyes. The only reason they didn’t set the pair on fire, the woman told police, was because they couldn’t find a lighter.
Needless to say, the 12-year-old son suffered long-term psychological damage (sun-sentinel.com).
The victim of a reported gang rape is working hard to deal with what happened, but her 12-year-old son is not faring quite as well, according to the woman’s boyfriend.
“She goes to counseling with the little boy,” the 36-year-old said. “The boy, he’s still grieving. He cannot accept that he had sex with his mama. Nobody can talk to him. He feels like nobody loves him. I don’t think there’s no way that little boy is ever going to forget that.”
Once inside, the attackers beat, raped and sodomized the woman and then forced her and her son to have sex. The child was physically assaulted and both had household chemicals poured over their bodies, the reports said.
I will not not dwell on the grisly details, but they are available in “Gang Rape In Dunbar Village In West Palm Beach, Florida” (pysih.com) and an update to that report (pysih.com).
Ultimately, “[Jakaris Taylor] and three others were convicted of raping the woman repeatedly, forcing her to perform oral sex on her son, and pouring some chemicals on both of them before leaving” (browardpalmbeach.com). In 2011, Taylor, who was 16 at the time of the crime, was resentenced to 60 years in prison.
Avion [Lawson], who was 14 at the time of the crime, is currently serving a 30-year prison sentence.
Nathan Walker, who was 16, has already been resentenced to 60 years in prison.
The other convict, Tommy Poindexter, was 18 at the time of the crime. He’ll get to hang on to his life sentence.

Taylor wasn’t expecting jail time at all (sun-sentinel.com):
In letters he wrote from the Palm Beach County Jail, he told his girlfriend that he’ll get out on house arrest because there is no DNA evidence linking him to scene of the June 18 gang rape.
“They ain’t got nothing on me but a latent fingerprint,” Taylor, 16, wrote. “But for them other three [defendants] they got DNA, fingerprints and the lady positively identified them.”
Taylor, who grinned for the cameras when he was arrested July 12, denied his role in the rape through letters released Friday by the State Attorney’s Office. He told a girlfriend that his fingerprint was found on something he gave one of the other suspects, which was dropped in the house.
Spotlight on Avion Lawson, the youngest known participant (palmbeachpost.com):
The picture of Lawson that emerged this week during the rape trial of his co-defendants — Nathan Walker Jr. and Tommy Poindexter — was not an image that evokes sympathy. At 14, he’d already had multiple sex partners and had participated several times in group sex, “runnin’ trains” on young ladies. In those letters, he bragged about his “thuggin’ days” and hoped to return to them once out of jail. And he called the woman he raped — the one for whom he now professes so much sorrow — a bitch and an ugly whore.
Note that in “runnin’ trains,” the young ladies’ consent is considered irrelevant.
The only emotion he could muster during his two hours of testimony were some long pauses and a few sighs. It was as if he were admitting to some minor infraction, like not doing his homework. “I had intercourse,” Lawson said matter-of-factly about his actions that night.
“Did you use a condom?” Assistant Palm Beach County State Attorney Craig Williams asked.
“Yeah,” he replied, again dryly. A condom he mindlessly “lost track of” that led to his arrest. Lawson pleaded guilty to 14 charges and offered to testify against his friends because his DNA was on that condom. He knew that he’d be convicted. So he hopes that Judge Krista Marx will take pity and not sentence him to one of the 11 life sentences he faces. So he feigns remorse.
But, again, he’s a bad actor. “Are you ashamed of what happened?” asked Mr. Williams. “Yeah,” Lawson said, in his deep, monotone, emotionless voice.
I object. The witness is lying. My proof? The following exchange between Lawson and the prosecutor:
Mr. Williams: “Tell the jury here why you pled guilty.”Lawson: “Because I want to stick up for my responsibility.”
Mr. Williams: “Why now? You didn’t want to do it initially. Why now?”
Lawson: “I was 14 when that happened. I just can’t see myself gettin’ life.”
He had no problem seeing his fellow “Bean Boys” beat a 12-year-old to shut up his cries for his mother and pleas for his life. No problem seeing his victim vomit the semen they’d forced her to ingest. And no problem seeing himself insert a bar of soap into her most private place to try to cover up their dirty deeds.
Had Lawson felt anything for that mother and son, he would have left their Dunbar Village apartment that night and sought help for them. Instead, he willingly — and, the mother says, laughingly — participated in the crime.
Dec 1997: Abducted, Raped, Beaten with Bat, and Left to Die in Alley at Christmas Time by Chilean Serial Rapist (Colorado)
While researching brutal the murder of Sarah Coit by her black boyfriend (see Mutilated, Gutted, and Decapitated in Breakup Gone Wrong in “Perils of Miscegenation/Why White Women Shouldn’t Date Black Men”), I discovered another brutally murdered 23-year-old blonde among the students of Sarah’s high school cross country coach, Bill Mongovan (greenwichtime.com).
University of Colorado student Susannah Chase (23, white) was raped, beaten with a baseball bat, and left in an alley to die by Chilean native Diego Olmos-Alcalde (39, Hispanic) in 1997 (thedenverchannel.com).
Susannah Chase was walking home alone from a pizza parlor when she was attacked. Police say she was savagely beaten with a baseball bat, dying the next day in a hospital after 24 hours on life support. The same day she died, Chase was supposed to fly home to Connecticut for Christmas.
Olmos-Alcalde was found guilty in 2009 (denverpost.com), but was spared the death penalty, possibly because her family told prosecutors — and the killer — that Susannah “would not have wanted anyone, even her murderer, to receive the death penalty” (cbsnews.com). I wonder if, in the last moments of her life, Susannah perhaps had a change of heart.
Olmos-Alcalde had previously been arrested for two first-degree sexual assaults against women in Denver and for “criminal sexual contact” against a woman in New Jersey, and convicted of the attempting kidnapping of a woman in Wyoming (thedenverchannel.com).
May 1994: “Viva Mexico!” Shouts Hispanic Murderer-Rapist As He’s Executed for “Gruesome” Crime — Obama Couldn’t Save His Life (Texas)
“Mexican National Shouts ‘Viva Mexico!’ as He’s Executed in Texas” (foxnews.com):
As the lethal injection began taking effect, the Mexican National convicted of the brutal rape and killing of a teenage girl in 1995 shouted, “Viva Mexico!” just before he died at a Texas prison.
Efforts by Humberto Leal’s attorneys to halt the execution fell short, with the U.S. Supreme Court turning back a stay request and Texas Gov. Rick Perry refusing to grant a pardon. He was pronounced dead at 6:21 p.m. local time.
President Obama, the State Department and Mexican authorities asked Texas for a last-minute reprieve, citing the U.N.-enforced 1963 Vienna Treaty, which requires foreign nationals who are arrested in foreign countries the right to access their consulates.
The U.S. Supreme Court denied Leal’s request, calling his argument meritless.
For 16 years, Leal has exercised his right to file appeals and motions so extensively, one judge in federal district court called his case “one of the most procedurally convoluted and complex habeas corpus proceedings” he ever reviewed.
Details of the murder were particularly gruesome.
Adria Sauceda, 16, his victim, was found naked by authorities, according to court documents.
“There was a 30- to 40-pound asphalt rock roughly twice the size of the victim’s skull lying partially on the victim’s left arm,” court documents read. “Blood was underneath this rock. A smaller rock with blood on it was located near the victim’s right thigh.”
A “bloody and broken” stick roughly 15 inches long with a screw at the end of it was also protruding from the girl’s vagina, according to the documents.
For more gruesome details of the gang rape, brutal beating, torture, and murder of Adria Sauceda, see prodeathpenalty.com:
The tragic final hours of sixteen-year-old Adrea Sauceda’s life started at an outdoor party in San Antonio, Texas. A witness observed Adria, apparently intoxicated and partially undressed, in the middle of a circle of men who were taking turns “on top of her.” Another witness testified that an unidentified male invited him to have intercourse with Adria. The same witness testified that he later observed another man carrying a disoriented Adria to a truck, where he “had his way with her.”
Twenty-three-year-old Humberto Leal was also at the party. At some point the intoxicated but conscious victim was placed in Leal’s car. Leal and Adria left together in Leal’s car. About thirty minutes later, Leal’s brother arrived at the party in a car which came to a screeching halt. Leal’s brother was very excited or hysterical. Leal’s brother started yelling to the people left at the party, “What the hell happened!” Leal’s brother was yelling that Leal came home with blood on him saying he had killed a girl.
Several of the party members went looking for Adria in the same area where the party was. They found her nude body lying face-up on a dirt road. They noticed Adria’s head had been bashed in and it was bleeding. Her head was flinching or jerking. These party members called the police.
When the police arrived, they saw the nude victim lying on her back. There was a 30 to 40 pound asphalt rock roughly twice the size of Adria’s skull lying partially on Adria’s left arm. Blood was underneath this rock. A smaller rock with blood on it was located near Adria’s right thigh. There was a gaping hole from the corner of Adria’s right eye extending to the center of her head from which blood was oozing. Adria’s head was splattered with blood. There was a bloody and broken stick approximately 14 to 16 inches long with a screw at the end of it protruding from Adria’s vagina. Another 4 to 5 inch piece of the stick was lying to the left side of Adria’s skull.
Dr. DiMaio, the medical examiner who performed the autopsy, testified about Adria’s injuries and cause of death. DiMaio testified that even though Adria was intoxicated when she received her injuries, she would have been aware of what was happening to her. In addition to Adria’s massive head injuries, DiMaio testified about injuries Adria received to her chest and shoulder which were consistent with having been inflicted by the stick found in Adria’s vagina. DiMaio also testified about the defensive wounds Adria received to her hands trying to protect herself from some object. DiMaio also testified Adria was alive when the stick was placed in her vagina.
DiMaio also testified about bite marks he found on Adria’s left cheek, the right side of her neck and the left side of her chest. Another witness compared the bite marks on Adria’s chest and neck with dental impressions of Leal’s teeth. They matched.
